Like many buzzwords that take the IT industry by storm, 'Content Management' is currently one of 'the' hot topics. Guesstimates made by research organisations have decreed the global CMS market value to be worth billions of USD of revenue! Yet until recently, the CMS industry was dominated by names that no-one had ever heard of. With a surge of acquisitions, the names that we would typically associate with IT have come forward to assume a market position by buying up companies that were already successful in niche sectors of content management, or by merging with organisations that compliment their own product offerings.
The actual term 'Content Management' now covers (as it arguable always should have done) a whole multitude of products, ranging from the management of content in the form of documents, to records, to web, to assets and pretty much anything stored electronically. Some companies have niched in a particular segment of Content Management such as Web Content Mgt or Document Mgt, whilst others have grown or merged to the point where they offer so called 'Enterprise Content Management' solutions.
A customer who goes to the IT market and innocently asks for a Content Management System, would be excused for being totally baffled and bemused by the number of different solutions they are presented with. Such is the breadth and depth of solutions on offer, that it is becoming increasingly important for the customer to be able to classify exactly what type of content it is they are looking to manage and in what manner.
This site aims to assist anyone who is looking at purchasing a CMS solution. It is focused on the European market and all the suppliers listed in the CMS Suppliers section have physical offices in the countries shown.
